Privacy Policy

Zede Academy is an Ethiopian educational platform providing exam preparation content for students in Grades 7–12. Our app is available on Google Play and our website is zedeacademy.et.

We collect only the minimum data needed to provide the service:

• Grade selection — stored locally on your device to show you relevant content.
• Subscription / voucher status — stored in our secure Appwrite database to verify your access.
• Quiz and progress data — stored locally on your device only. We do not upload this to our servers.
• Bookmarks — stored locally on your device only.
• Mistake reports — if you submit a report, we store the content of that report (subject, unit, and description) in our database so we can fix the error.
• Device notifications — we send local daily study reminders. No personal data is sent to external servers for this.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or location unless you voluntarily provide them when contacting support.

• To verify your subscription and provide access to content.
• To process and review content mistake reports.
• To improve the accuracy and quality of our educational content.
• To send you optional local study reminders (no data leaves your device for this).

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond delivering the Zede Academy service.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. The only external service we use is:

• Appwrite Cloud — our backend provider, used to store subscription status and mistake reports securely. Appwrite's privacy policy is available at appwrite.io/privacy.
• Google Generative AI (Gemini API) — our third-party AI tutor integration. When you interact with the Zede AI Tutor/Chatbot in the app, your text queries are sent to Google to generate educational responses. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

• Local data (progress, bookmarks, grade) is stored on your device and is deleted if you uninstall the app.
• Subscription records in our database are retained for the duration of your subscription and for a reasonable period afterward for support purposes.
• Mistake reports are retained until the reported error is resolved, after which they may be archived or deleted.

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted communication (HTTPS) with our backend and secure storage through Appwrite Cloud. However, no system is 100% secure, and we encourage you to contact us immediately if you suspect any issue with your account access.

You have the right to:

• Request to know what data we hold about you.
• Request deletion of your data. To do so, contact us at zede@zai.et.
• Stop using the app at any time (local data is removed when you uninstall).

Zede Academy is designed for students in Grades 7–12, which includes minors. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. The app does not require account registration and does not collect names, emails, or phone numbers during normal use.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date below. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
